When I was younger, I always had a vision of marrying some big superstar singer/musician type. God had a different plan.

When I was 17 I met my husband. He was awesome, he actually was my best friend but he had a ‘normal’ job and I just didn’t think it was cool. (Keep in mind, I was very young). It actually took about 2 years of convincing before we even started dating.

When we decided to move out of the city, I had to stop doing all of the things that were bringing us extra money. I felt like I was being led to start teaching workshops and forming a business. However, those things take money and we had just lost the little bit I was making from babysitting and other avenues.

My husband and I prayed a lot about it. Only a few days later, his company asked him if he’d like to take on a second job. By him taking on the second job, I would be able to put some money aside and into my business.

What was that second job? Cleaning the office.

I asked him, ‘do you really want to do that?’ He did not think twice about it. All he thought was that it would bless his family and he did it and still does it.

So many times people say ‘I hate my job,’ ‘I hate my boss,’ ‘I’ll never move up,’ or ‘I’ll never make any more money than this.’ Many times we imprison ourselves with our own words.

Your source of income is not your job, your source of supply is not your boss. It is the Lord that ’supplies all your needs according to his riches and glory.’

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not
for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord
as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” Colossians 3:23-24

It does not matter if you clean bathrooms for a living, it does not matter if
you are a national speaker, what matter is that you do your job ‘as unto the
Lord.’

Put 110% into everything you do even if your boss is horrible and even if
you can’t stand your job. God will honor your work. God is looking at your heart and He is a God of change.

God created the universe from nothing, all living things were created literally out of nothing. If our God can do that then he can certainly causes raises to occur where there have been none, he can cause an increase in pay when you’ve been told otherwise and he can create positions for you where no position exists!

Our God is a creator!

No matter what your job is, do your best at it and then some. Take an extra class at night to learn how to be more efficient. Help others in your office, stop stealing the office supplies and don’t do just enough to get by.

Remember this:

“His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you
have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many
things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’ Matthew 25:23

We cannot expect to be promoted if we go to our jobs with bad attitudes and only halfway fulfill our work. God looks at your heart, he sees your motives.

My motivation is not money. My motivation is fulfilling the call on my life that God has given to me. If I obey the Word, fulfilling what God has led me to do then blessing will inevitably follow.

My husband did not care what job he worked simply because he knew who he was working for. The very first night he showed up to clean that office, he worked so hard that he was given a raise the next day!

I want to encourage you to work as ‘unto the Lord’ and stop imprisoning yourself with your own words. Speak the Word and break out of the box! Let God promote you, let God give you that raise, let God create a new job just for you.

It does not matter how old or young you are or how long you have worked at that job. Your circumstances do not dictate God’s Word. If you are still breathing on this earth then God says:

“For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you,
plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11

There is hope for you today! Let us not just be blessed but let us be a blessing!
