“You will have plenty to eat until you are full and you will praise the name of the Lord your God who has worked wonders for you.” Joel 2:26A few months ago, I spoke at the business leader’s breakfast at our church. I had been reading about the story of Joseph a few days earlier (beginning in Genesis 37). I actually felt that God was showing me several things out of that story and there is one that I wanted to share with you today.
In the story, Pharaoh had dreams about the famine that was coming upon the land and Joseph interpreted the dream. Joseph told the Pharaoh that God wanted them to prepare and get ready for this incredible famine that was coming. They listened. They worked extra hard, sowed more seed and brought in several times the normal amount of harvest so that they could stock up and prepare for the famine.
Then, when the famine came, Egypt not only had enough food for its own people but also those in surrounding areas. Genesis 41:54 says, “…There was famine in all the other lands, but in the whole land of Egypt there was food.”
God spoke through Joseph’s interpretation, the people obeyed and the country had ‘more than enough.’ Did you catch that, ‘more than enough..?’
Aren’t you glad we worship a God of ‘more than enough?’ It may seem as though our country is going through famine, it may seem that way for you personally as well. Maybe you have lost your job or your spouse has lost theirs or maybe kids or life circumstances have caused your finances to be tight right now.
Remember, because the Pharaoh listened to Joseph’s interpretation and obeyed, even during the worst of famines-the entire country still had ‘plenty to eat.’
Let me say this, it does not matter what is going on in the world around you or what circumstance you are facing right now. God is bigger than your circumstances. God did not intend for you to only live paycheck to paycheck, hoping and praying that you would be able to feed your family next week.
As believers, we are not a part of this economy, we are operating in God’s economy. Be encouraged today, and know if we listen and obey his Word then even in the worst of famines-we will have ‘plenty to eat.’ You can be surrounded by famine on every side, but the famine will not touch you!
Therefore, I would venture to say that all this ‘coupon stuff’ is more than just good timing, it’s God-timing!

i wanted to saythat I agree 100%. My dh had zero faith that tithing was a "God Thing". He couldn't believe that giving away money to a church and not toworry about finances was just unheard of. My husbands money was just that…HIS.
He spoke to pastors about this and after much( did I say MUCH??!) prayer he happily gave a tad less then 10%. And he admitted to me that we actually have more money now and not having to borrow from a money market acct for once inour lives!
God is faithful.
