I have tried to be as honest as possible on this website and attempt to take all of you through our very own frugal life. I am a mom, a wife, a follower of Christ and a couponer. Not only do I take advantage of many of the deals we share but many of the tips we provide are tips that I have been using for years.
Recently, I shared with you that my husband was laid off from his job. We are now going on 6 months of job searching. It has not been an easy process. In the midst of this, we (like many of you) are gearing up for back to school. We have held on to God’s Word and God has provided for us every step of the way.
It is funny how fear and doubt can sneak up on you, isn’t it? I feel like I am constantly reminding myself of God’s promises. One of my favorite books is ‘The Power of the Praying Wife‘ by Stormie OMartian. She has a prayer in that book that covers this very situation. I wanted to post that prayer here today for all of you who are searching for work or know someone who is. Simply change it up to fit your specific needs, I have shortened it a bit for the purpose of this post. This is what I pray each day and I believe God has wrapped us in favor and is bringing a great job for us:
“Lord, I pray that you would bless the work of my husband’s hands. May his labor bring not only favor, success, and prosperity, but great fulfillment as well. Give him strength, faith and a vision for the future so he can rise above any propensity for laziness. May he never run from work out of fear, selfishness or a desire to avoid responsibility.
I pray that you will be Lord over his work, and may he bring you into every aspect of it. Give him enough confidence in the gifts you’ve placed in him to be able to seek, find, and do good work. Open up doors of opportunity for him that no man can close. Develop his skills so that they grow more valuable each passing year. Show me what I can do to encourage him.
I pray that his work will be established, secure, successful, satisfying, and financially rewarding. May he not be ‘lagging in diligence, but fervent in spirit, serving the Lord (Rms 12:11).” Let him be like a tree planted by the stream of your living water, which brings forth fruit in due season. May he never wither under pressure, but grow strong and prosper (Ps. 1:3).”
Be encouraged today and stand strong, the Lord is faithful!
“Let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us, and establish the work of our hands for us; yes, establish the work of our hands.” Psalm 90:17.

Thank you so much for sharing this! I have been unemployed since April and am using this site and tips to help my family survive and thrive during this time. That is the work I need prayer in right now. I believe if I am frugal and continue to work at “not-working” we will make it and I can be home for my 4 children and 2 foster children! I have this book, but hadn’t picked it up in awhile. Sometimes you forget the resources you have right at your fingertips because they get lost in the “stuff shuffle”, so thanks for the reminder. This devotion is much appreciated, thank you.
my husband contract for the army is almpst upa nd we are looking for work. i loved this prayer.
Even though my husband is employed, I appreciate your heart and this site. Times are very slim for us. We have a lot of debt to pay off (it seems one thing keeps breaking after another) and bills keep accumulating from these types of situations. But I trust in the Lord with all my heart and I believe in the work of his mighty hand. He is the rock on which we need to lean on these times and remember he is near to all who call on him. I will pray for you (and mean that) this week ad I see your posts and read your blog and pray for a miracle for your family. Many prayers of blessing!!
I love that book too! My husband is also unemployed (for one year), and although I have that book, I haven’t read it in a while. You have inspired me to read (and pray) through it again. Thank you. Hang in there. If I had known one year ago that my husband would still be unemployed today, I think I would have fallen apart, but here we are still hanging on by the grace of God. Somehow every month, something happens (God) that leads to us being able to pay every bill! What an amazing time this has been to grow our faith in Him. Oh, there have been days when I’ve been at the end of my rope, but somehow He continues to wrap me in His arms and carry me through. I’ll be praying for your family.
Thanks for sharing the devotional with us.I will continue to pray for your family. I was laid off in April and my husband was laid off in May. Your website has been so helpful to us. We have learned to be frugal and really look forward to your daily emails. Please give yourself a pat on the back. You have helped so many people with your website. What a blessing it is to be able to connect with other Christians and know that God is always with us.
Your posts are always so inspirational, God is using you in ways that is touching so many hearts! Thank you for being so diligent to Gods Word! …I have been unemployed since April and it has been such a roller coaster ride in my faith and with Gods word! Saten knows right when he can attack you and make you doubt what Gods word PRMOISES you and will make you want to just give up! BUt through all the hard times I experienced the best things I have could have ever experienced in my life! I finally realized GOD never left my side not once! Through all the turn downs of job interviews and all those tears when I would cry out and wonder “WHY ME” Why do I have to go through this” he was there saying “Its not about YOU, its about ME”, I realized I was being so selfish and i was only praying what job I WANTED and what job would make ME HAPPY and God took me through this journey to make me see that MY wants is not going to satify me near as much as what HE had for me! Well I finally landed a job last week and at first I prayed, “God this isnt what job i was praying for” and he quickly let me know that “This job will be your journey to complete FULFILLMENT, SATISIFACTION, and be the way you can shine my light to others of all ages!” And now I have never felt so much PEACE in my life right now!! And i tell you this for all those job seekers out there, to take yourself out of the equation for once and pray a prayer of what GOD has for you and not what YOU THINK you have in mind! I promise HE will take you to places you never thought was possible!!
VERY awesome, Brittany!!!! Huge thanks to all of you who commented, I know there are a lot of people walking through this right now and there is nothing about it that’s easy. I’m standing with all of you, we walk in supernatural favor and God does have a ‘hope, plan and a future for us.’ Thank you for all your encouragement, please know that I am also praying for you.
Thank you for the devotional prayer. My husband lost his job 2 years ago this month. He found temporary work within 3 months and in 6 months was blessed with a full-time, permanent position in his field. He has been working at that job for over a year now. It was only by the grace of God, the prayers of many friends and family that we not only survived, but, thrived during those dark days and months. Our love, worship, and submission to God became stronger than ever before. I want to encourage each of you and your families to keep close to God and trust in His perfect timing and plans for you. I am praying for all of you.
I pray to god to provide work and every provision for all people who are in need. God said “Ask and U shall receive in faith.” The economy means nothing to God. U will have work. He will provide work for your hands. god Bless each and every one of U. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
