FeedMom on the Move: Jorette Gilkes

My name is Jorette Gilkes. My husband, James and I have been married for 17 years. We have two beautiful sons, Y'shua, 11 years old and Zion 3 years old.
I had been searching and asking God how I can begin to feel a greater sense of fulfillment and reach other moms and other people to put a smile on their faces and encourage them. That is when I went on a missionary trip to Finland. Upon my arrival back home I found myself writing poems continually concerning just everyday life. I began reading the poems to my mother, sister, and my close friend Stephanie Louis, who is also a mom. These poems really made them smile, laugh, and feel uplifted. The encouragement I received from Stephanie and her desire to help me inspired me to write these two books entitled: Life's Blessings – A Book of Poems For Moms and Life's Blessings - Poems For Everyday Living. These poems are my everyday life's experiences being a mom and just being an individual who goes through life’s circumstances. My desire at the end of each poem I write is that everyone would see that though there are many challenges we face, there are also hidden blessings behind our daily sacrifices. I have now sold over 200 copies of the book of poems and I am very excited about putting smiles on moms and individual faces.
I believe my husband and children come first. I usually find peaceful and quiet times to write and be inspired when everyone is asleep. However, there are some times when my children are playing and making noise, it inspires me to write even more about being a mom.
My children, I believe, appreciate my writing. My oldest son recognizes every time I am writing and he says “mom you are doing a great job”. I have even read a few to him and he laughs.
The most rewarding part of being a mom is when my children come and hug on me or give me kisses. I love every moment of that. I also love to see my two boys play together because there is a bond between them that will remain forever.
Life's Blessings Book of Poems will encourage you, lift you up when you feel down and make you laugh when you are crying. I would love for every mom and any individual to purchase one and be blessed.
