Throwing a Party Using the Dollar Store

I am in the middle of planning my son's fourth birthday party, it will be a Power Rangers Samurai party. Yep, Power Rangers. There is a trick I have learned over the years which has helped save a ton especially if you are throwing 'themed' parties. That trick is, the dollar store. Just about any $1 store will do.

For this party, I am going to buy 'real' Power Rangers cupcake toppers and a few 'nice' balloons and some Power Rangers treats. But, the bulk of the items will be coordinating solid colors from the dollar store.

You can use some items that have the theme but I'm not going to spend $30 on Power Rangers plates that will be covered in cake and thrown in the trash. Instead, I'll spend $1 per package and pick up red plates that match with the rest of the theme.

Think this only works for kids parties? Nope! Check out the place settings below:

These two place settings are super cute and extremely frugal! What are your favorite items to pick up at the dollar store?

I usually avoid buying things (specially food) made in China, as much as I can.

Nice job, Sarah!!

I like to buy housewares there. My favorite item to purchase there are the small plastic zip-loc "jewelry" bags that come several sizes in a package. I use them to organize my tool box (screws, wire, nails, etc.) and to organize my craft supplies (beads, needles, etc.) They are AWESOME!

Yep I am in the process of doing a baby shower for my sister- ladybug theme. First did some searching online for cheap decorating ideas. Then I hit Dollar Tree and found all kinds of cute red, black, and white decorations. I'm making the announcements myself with stuff I have on hand. So I spent a total of $20 at Dollar Tree (tableware, decorations, prizes, posterboard for a game), $4 at Walmart for clearance easter baskets (plain white with a butterfly lace around the edge), and then splurged $5 at Reasor's for red and black Jelly Bellies. Other friends are chipping in by bringing snack foods, balloons, and party favors, and her MIL is bringing the cake. Fabulous baby shower for $30!
