Frugal Gifts: Magnetic Wall Art & $50 Lowes Giveaway
Today's Frugal Gift Idea comes from Vanessa. Learn how to make magnetic wall art that's not only practical, but stylish and fun! Using coupons & sales, Vanessa spent around $10 for this super-cute gift idea.
What you'll need:
- 12"x12" magnetic sheet of metal (if the metal is too thin, you can back it with wood or any sturdy material of your choice)
- 12"x12" piece of scrapbook paper
- Craft Magnets
- Plastic decorative buttons or beads to glue onto front of magnet
- Mod Podge
- Foam brush
- Hot glue gun & glue
Punch two holes in top of sheet metal. You will string your ribbon through the hole at the end of this tutorial. This will be used to hang it on the wall.
Apply a liberal amount of Mod Podge to the entire sheet of metal. Place scrapbook paper on metal and adhere it. Make sure the Mod Podge has not started drying before you place the paper down. This is VERY important.
Smooth out any air bubbles and creases and let dry completely. I placed magnets on each corner and in middle of the paper. This is just an added measure to make sure the paper adheres well to the metal as it was dries and that the corners don't curl up.
Once everything has dried, coat the entire piece of adhered scrapbook paper with Mod Podge, making an X motion when applying. This gives the paper a textured look.
As the wall art is drying again, use your glue gun and glue the decorative buttons or beads to the magnet. Set aside and let cool.
Once the Mod Podge has dried completely, string about 2 feet of ribbon through the holes in the top of the metal, tie it and hang it to your wall! Place your new cute magnets on the wall art and you're all done!
Now you can display pictures, reminders and shopping lists in style!
