Couponing 101: Learn Your Store Coupon Policies
| Tweet |
Have you been following our Couponing 101 series? I've seen a lot of 'how do you do that?' posts on Facebook recently and our Couponing 101 series is here to shine the light on exactly 'how' we do that...save money that is.
A big part of the money-saving strategy is working with store polices. I teach ways to save with the store policies that already exist. Many times saving money is just as simple as realizing what your store offers, each store has some kind of savings policy but it's your job to figure out what that is.
Good news-we've made it easy. Here are a few store coupon policies to help you get started, these are the official policies so feel free to print them out and keep them with you.
{Big Chain Stores}
CVS 101 (This is not the official policy however, it will help you get started)
{Tulsa Stores}
{Oklahoma City Stores}
Don't see your favorite store listed? Simply call your store directly and ask to speak to a manager, then ask the questions you need to know such as:
1. Do you accept internet coupons?
2. Do you offer store coupons?
3. Do you double coupons?
4. Do you offer other savings methods?
It's very simple to find out if your store has a policy, one phone call can save you a ton of money!

I was recently faced with a new policy @Wal-Mart: I had a price match from Warehouse Market, but Wal-Mart (in Claremore) would not allow me to utilize the price match AND a manufacturer's coupon - this has NEVER happened before @Wal-Mart. To my way of thinking, Wal-Mart is not truly allowing price match if you cannot also use manufacturer's coupons. Believe me, I am going to write Bentonville about this. I normally utilize price match, plus get other items @Wal-Mart. However, in the future, I will definitely just go to the advertising store and get whatever else I need from them - NOT Wal-Mart. If Wal-Mart does not go back to the old policy, I would think they may get complaints from many of us. If you have faced this new policy, please join me in contacting Wal-Mart HQ in Bentonville, AR!! (P.S. You can write - by US mail, or call them, but I could location no way to e-mail them.)
This past week I used a Save-A-Lot ad for Hamburger Helper 10/$10 and a manufacturer's coupon save $0.75/3 for the Hambuger Helper on the same transaction to get my Hamburger Helper for $0.75 each. I did this at the Walmart in Muskogee and had no trouble at all. I wonder if it was the store policy that you had problems with or just the cashier?
For the person who posted that their Walmart did not allow price matching and the use of a manufacturers coupon, that is such a bunch of BS that the cashier did that to you. I hope you asked to speak with a manager or supervisor; it sounds like your cashier did not know the policies. And if you did speak with the manager, I hope you got his or her name for when you contact Walmart HQ. I am in Las Vegas, and they price match and use coupons for me ALL THE TIME! That's how I get my best deals. I really hope you fight this because you'll be helping yourself and other couponers. Next time you go into your Walmart go armed with a copy of both the price match and couponing policies in hand. Good luck to you!
I would like to add to the WalMart debate - I have already contacted HQ and waiting a response. I went to due my shopping yesterday and per the manufacturers' limit on the coupon it stated I could use 4 like coupons on the same item. I had done this the week before. The girl went to scan my second coupon and it accepted it. She immediately took it off and told me that they now only allow one coupon per item REGARDLESS of what the manufacturer has listed on the coupon. Needless to say I will not be going back to WalMart for groceries and I have 2 growing teenage boys!!!!

Then as for your Walmart Debate clearly since the register accepted your second coupon and yet the cashier took it right of telling you their new coupon policy, I hope you got her name and discussed this with their manager. It looks to me like She had a personal beef with you. And you should not let her rotten appleness spoil your getting all the good deals you can at Walmart. Did you? Please tell me you did. I know in using coupons in various stores there are times the cashiers are actually impressed with my savings, possibly even a bit jealous. And then there are other times I have been told the register does not accept coupons or I can tell by the way the cashier acts they don't want to deal with redeeming my coupon(s). And you know what I see it like this, it's their job to take my coupon(s)! So if they don't like it maybe they ought to get a new job.At Watlmar I have had a cashier refuse to accept my coupon simply since her register would not scan it. I decided next time it happens to ask for the manager.
