FeedDIY: Make Your Own Letter Wreath...FAIL

A few weeks ago, one of the mothers at my son's school told me that she was really nervous to do craft projects around me because she's seen how good I am at crafts on the news. Personally, I thought that was hilarious. Why? Because I know the truth.
The truth is, I usually mess up WAY more than I succeed. The thing is, I do not have a shred of 'give up' in me so I just keep trying until I get it right or at least close to right. Which, inevitably, makes the 'frugal' craft pretty pricey in the end. Don't believe me? Well, let's check out one of my Christmas crafts.
The picture above is a letter wreath that I found on Pinterest (where all great ideas that rarely work seem to be found nowadays). Don't get me wrong, I'm a HUGE pinterest fan, but I am seriously beginning to doubt that those crafty projects are done by human beings at all. I think it is likely some posse of alien super moms with unearthly craft skills that have conspired against all of us normal moms who are just trying to survive. Anyway...
The picture I found on pinterest has no link unfortunately, which left me to assume it was made of Christmas ornaments and glue. SO, I bought myself a wooden letter, some ornaments and broke out the hot glue gun. Then, I got this...
What went wrong you ask? Well, first, I bought ornaments that I had to rip the tops off of which meant most of them broke. The ornaments were already on sale so I couldn't use my coupon, that means I paid $15 for them which was a bummer all the way around. Then, I bought the letter too and my Money Saving Queen self was not happy.
On top of that, I used hot glue and hung the letter on a black door that faces the sun during the hottest time of the day. As I sat in my living room watching TV, I could hear a 'ting, ting' sort of sound. After about 10 minutes of searching, I opened my door to see the ornaments falling one by one to the ground. Nice.
Jessica (one of our writers, who by the way, also helps me with crafts on the news) made a beautiful wreath to replace it, which made me feel much better. :) See, it's not always as perfect as it seems.
Want some more of my #fails? No problem. Just wait, I had the most epic fail EVER just a few weeks ago on a piece of furniture. Yep, that one was a $100 fail which stinks. I'll post it soon. Until then, help me feel better and post some of your fails too on our Facebook page!

Aw, how sad! I don't usually take pictures of my fails. LOL I just throw them away then refuse to think about them EVER AGAIN. :)
Thanks for sharing your fail! I am always so intimidated to try projects, and the last one I did was a fail! It makes me want to give up, but thanks to your reminder I think I will keep trying. I'll just have to admit that with success on some projects comes failure on others!!
Oh, yes.....this is gonna be so good! I am so glad to be along for the rest of the story! Thanks for sharing the ups AND the downs. And for what it is worth, the part that didn't melt off was very, very beautiful, even if it did cost a little more than you planned.

When I saw the Pinterest picture my 1st though was my friend would love it!! I thought I'd have a whole year to make it & then, as I read on, I decided to pass on the project. (For the record, I would have done the exact same thing.) However, if you ever do figure out all of the secrets, please re-post it. It really is adorable once you know all of the in's & outs, right?
