Choosing the Right After School Activity

It's nearly time to head back to school, which means new teachers, new school clothes and a new daily schedule. But it's not all about time in the classroom- your child's after school activities are just as important and should be chosen wisely.

So how do you know what extracurricular activity will be best for your son or daughter? The best place to start is with your child. What is she interested in? Does he like to run, draw or perform? Does she have a lot of energy to burn each day?

But even your teen needs some down time, so make sure they don't over-commit themselves by joining too many teams, clubs or classes at one time.

• Class size: how many children there are per instructor
• Friendly, knowledgeable staff/instructors
• Clean, safe space for the activity
