A few weeks ago, I wrote this article Trade Gold for Cash and have been digging through my jewelry box ever since. Our readers have been sending in their stories like crazy and posting their pictures on our Money Saving Queen Facebook page but now it's time for me to share with you my experience.
First, I asked a TON of questions! I've heard the scams too and all the infomercials so I was a little nervous. However, my great aunt turned in her gold recently from garage sales and cashed in enough to buy a new car with cash. Yeah, that was cool.
After talking with Tulsa Gold and Gems (91st & Yale) and finding out that they not only have the absolute highest payout in the country but that what they pay is posted on their website WeAreGoldBuyers.com, I felt much better about taking in my goods.
I dug through my jewelry box and my mom's too and found my old tulip ring, my class ring (I wore it for one week and do not intend on wearing it again...I was a nerd in high school, not something I want to be reminded of everyday) and old necklaces (remember those gold chains?). I took those into Tulsa Gold and Gems expecting to get enough money to go out to eat. Literally, I was in hopes for $20. When I arrived, I found the place covered with security cameras and they even buzz you in making you feel secure.

They took the gold (and silver) and inspected it. They then bagged the pieces they were interested in and came back, the bags were labeled with the amount they were willing to pay and the weight and carat of the gold. I then had the choice to sell them my gold or take it back. Totally up to me, making this a risk free deal.

Of course, I said 'sell it!' Here's the shock. My old junk jewelry was actually worth $683.00. WOW. Yes, I am a dork but that is a real reaction to the amount they told me. We were in the middle of trying to save money for a weekend trip to Wisconsin and that literally paid for our trip so I was about 10 steps beyond excited.

Tulsa Gold and Gems is located at 91st and Yale in Tulsa however, you can also trade it online if you do not live in the Tulsa area. Your box is insured up to $5,000. Just visit WeAreGoldBuyers.com for more information. Again, they have the highest payout in the nation so it's worth looking into.
I'm not suggesting you sell your wedding ring or other sentimental items, what I brought in was literally stuff that I would never wear again and a few of the items were broken too. Now that I'm fully addicted, I've been cleaning out my house and found old coins and other items that I'm going to take back in.
If you do decide to visit Tulsa Gold & Gems in Tulsa (91st & Yale) and you earn $250 or more on your transaction, be sure to tell them Money Saving Queen sent you and they'll let you shoot a short testimonial video and you'll get another $50!! But, you do HAVE to mention Money Saving Queen to get the deal!
I had a great experience enough to do it over again and send my family in as well. I found this to be another easy way to earn extra money especially if you have stuff just sitting around that you would either give away or throw out in a garage sale. Visit WeAreGoldBuyers.com to find out what they take and how much they pay, they also have a great FAQ section too.
If you're planning a summer trip, take a look around your house. You never know if those old broken necklaces from high school boyfriends might actually be worth something!
Disclosure: Tulsa Gold and Gems is a paying advertiser however, all opinions and experiences are mine. You can read more about our disclosure policy here.

I went back in April, and earned enough to pay two months worth of our Building fund pledge, the Lord gave us money we didn't have. All this jewelry was from childhood to high school. I didn't think about selling my graduation ring, I wore it A Lot back then! My Mom recently earned almost $1900.00, but she turned in almost 42 years of old jewelry she had bought or been given by my Dad. Stuff she will not ever intend on wearing again. Dated things. She intends on putting it towards a new Wedding Ring! I'm so excited! Praise the Lord!

I went today and only was quoted $38. My hubby told me I sent him with 'costume jewelry'. Haha!! That must be because my sister went in last week and took all my jewelry including my tulip ring. Hmm...sound familiar? Ha!!
I went to Tulsa Gold after reading this post. I thought I would be lucky to get $20....but I got $245! I can't believe it. I was skeptical about taking my stuff to one of these types of places. It was old stuff just sitting in my old jewelry box. Me and my husband went last Saturday and there was a line, but it moved at a good pace. The guy that worked there was very nice and walked me through the whole process. I've told several others to just go and check it out. It's a no loose situation. They tell you the price they offer and you can decide to accept or decline. If you decline then you just take your stuff back home. $245!!
Went there and didnt even see anyone.... Ended up having to leave 3 times due to the wait! I was told "this is normal". Stood in a hallway with little to no A/C, a standing fan that someones so sweet child blocked everyone from. The last time we waited about 30 minutes, with 10 people in front of us, and NO ONE MOVED that entire time. I have patience, but after trying that many times and being told "well if you want to get through quicker than show up before they open and wait". That was annoying. Not as impressed with this place because of this factor. Shorter wait is worth going elsewhere to me and losing out on a few dollars. They are only open business hours and about 4 hours on Sat.
To "Anonymous" above, we are sorry about your experience. We did have A/C outside of the elevator/hallway, but it could not keep up with the 108 degree temps. So we recently installed a separate unit just for this area, and it is now what we call "freezing". We also offer a TV, overhead music and benches for everyone to sit and wait before they enter our actual waiting room. Many times we give away items from free watches to gift certificates to those who wait! As far as the line, you are correct, that is something we have every day. We DO have the largest buying staff in the city if not the state, and typical wait is 15 minutes, but when people realize you pay more for scrap gold than anyone in the nation, it turns into a very popular place! The biggest misconception you made was thinking "going elsewhere and losing out on a few dollars". Everyday customers tell us how they went to another gold buyer, did not like their offer and decided to come see us, and we doubled and even tripled their offer! SO, I understand your time is valuable, but when you could end up with hundreds more, or even thousands more by waiting, most people choose to wait. Something to keep in mind, the reason we can pay the highest price is because we work off a very high sales volume (the line of customers) and low profit margin (how we can pay so much). Tulsa Gold and Gems employees do not work off commission sales, we publish what we pay on our website, others don't. Other gold buyers work of commission sales, much like a car salesman. Remember, we are the only company in state approved to accept your mail-ins, so you can receive the same price for your items just as if you walked into the store, without leaving the comfort of your home. Just give us a call and request a gold kit! Tulsa Gold and Gems ONLY location 91st & Yale, 918-743-2274.
Thanks, Sarah, for this post. I read it when it originally posted in 2011 and toyed with the idea of selling some old jewelry ever since. My husband and I had some unexpected expenses arise and had a tuition payment for my daughter looming, so we decided to dig around and see what we had. Since we live in OKC, we first went to a reputable jewelry store to see what they would offer us, just for comparison's sake and to avoid the "hassle" of working with someone in Tulsa. The OKC store offered us $420 for what we had. Not bad, but I felt a tad disappointed. SO, I ordered a mail kit from Tulsa Gold and Gems and shipped off our little bundle of stuff. They were SO nice and helpful--and fast! The "hassle" I'd feared went completely out the window! And they paid us $660 for the exact same jewelry pieces we'd been offered $420 for here. They even mailed back a couple of things they said really weren't gold. Like with your surprise vacation money, we were thrilled for the bit of extra to help us finish paying our daughter's tuition without breaking the bank. Love finding great ideas like this on your site!
