Frugal Recipe: Tres Leches Cake

I have been baking Tres Leches Pastel which translates to Three Milks cake for the past 10 years. It's a tradition and I hope it's one of those desserts my son will ask for when he visits. It's always a crowd pleaser and sometimes its the birthday cake my son and husband requests on their special day.  Let me tell you this cake is divine!

Tres Leches Cake

2 cups flour
2 cups sugar
6 teaspoon baking powder
6 eggs
1/2 cup milk ( I use 2%)
1 teaspoon vanilla

Sift together the dry ingredients. Beat eggs till frothy and add to dry ingredients. Add milk and vanilla. Blend all ingredients. 
Use a 9x13 pan at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.

Step 1: In a bowl combine vanilla and the three milks.

Step 2: As soon as it comes out of the oven, poke holes with a fork.

Step 3: Pour the milk over the cake. Be sure to pour all over evenly.

Step 4: Cover and chill for at least 6 hours.

You can top cake with cool whip or make your own whipped cream. A few years ago I got a great recipe from a friend for whipped cream. Super easy and delicious.
Place bowl and whip attachment in freezer for one hour. You must do this, if not the cream will not set up.

Whipped Cream
1 pint of heavy whipping cream
3 tbs sugar
Mix together using a mixer until  it thickens and peaks form. It will not work if the bowl and attachment is not frozen. Frost cake and time to devour!
