Have you thought about starting a blog? How about turning your blog into a business? I have an upcoming Blogging Bootcamp workshop which is all about turning your blog into a business and also gaining an audience...which you need if you want to have a successful blog. For those of you interested, please visit the Money Saving Queen Event Page for more information.
{5 Ways to Make Money on Your Blog}
1. Affiliate Marketing: Sign up with companies like Escalate Media and start running ads on your site and within your posts. If you're not sure how to approach companies for advertising, affiliate companies are your answer. You sign up for free, they supply the ads and you make money. Many blogs use this and can easily make an income by them alone. However, I believe utilizing multiple streams of revenue is really your best option.
2. Products: This is easily done if you are a craft blog selling your own creations but a bit harder if you are not. This is where eBooks, supplies, shirts and other products come into play. You may think you have no products to offer but as your blog grows, ask your readers what they would like to see. My very first product was a coupon organizer, it was purse sized and came in a ton of different colors. I ordered them myself wholesale when I first began and sold them only at workshops. Although I do not sell those anymore, I have moved onto other things all designed to help our readers.
3. Services: The financial success of many blogs comes from the services they actually offer. If you're a cooking blog, maybe you can cater meals? How about teaching workshops or classes? I actually taught workshops before I ever started a website, those are very close to my heart and I love them. Think outside the box, what may have started as a few posts might actually turn into a successful business before you know it.
4. Brand Promotion: Once you've established your own blog and have a committed group of readers, you can start utilizing brand promotions. That is, contact companies (or they will contact you as you grow) and help them promote their brands. This might be in the form of giveaways, reviews, twitter parties or other social media avenues. Some bloggers are compensated with cash and others with products. Again, this is only something you would want to do if it makes sense with your audience.
We love giveaways on our site so it makes sense for us to team up with companies for those. At the same time, there are companies I would not team up with as well. Use discretion and remember, it is your integrity and business on the line.
5. Private Ads: This one is a bit more complicated and likely something you move onto as your blog grows. But, if you don't know the CEO of the largest corporation in your city, start small...start by selling ads to other bloggers. Many bloggers will purchase private ads on your website to help promote their own blogs. This is a great way to interact with other bloggers while also making some cash too.
There are many, many ways to make money blogging. Most bloggers do not start out thinking about that but as their audience grows, the potential is there to make an income while still being at home with the kids. I will say it is work...at ton of work. Our blog now is a full time job for me and it's 7 days a week so I can honestly tell you there is a lot involved. However, it is also the best job I have ever had!
