Price Adjusting 101: Never Miss a Deal

If you buy an item and the price drops, many times you simply bring back your receipt and the store will give you the difference. That policy is called a price adjustment and every single store has a different take on it. 

This can become strategic however, when we're talking about Christmas shopping. Let's say you bought a HOT toy item on December 23rd only to find out that it's 50% off the day after Christmas. Well, if your store has a price adjustment policy, you could simply take back your receipt and get that difference back in cash. BAM! Instant deal.

Here are a few price adjustment policies for this year's hottest stores:

Price Adjustment Policies

Sears

• 14 days after item is purchased
• can be done for online and in-store purchases
• no applicable on clearance apparel items
• Receipt is needed to be return at the same location where item was purchased

Target

• 14 days after item purchased
• Take your receipt to guest services

Staples

• 14 days after item purchased
• Just show your receipt
   

Office Depot

• 14 days after item purchased
• will only adjust price it was at point of sale
• They will adjust items purchase from their site also.

Amazon

• Only available on TV purchases within 14 days of purchase

Kohl's

• Items on BOGO sales are not eligible
• Must have the original receipt
• 14 days after item purchased

GAP

• 14 days after item purchased
• Online purchases are adjusted by calling 1-800- GapStyle or sending an email, they cannot be done in the store

Banana Republic

• 14 days after item purchased
• Online purchase cannot be adjusted in the store
• They will refund you in the same original form of payment
   

Old Navy

• 14 days after item purchased
• Online purchase cannot be adjusted in the store
• They will refund you in the same original form of payment

Justice

• 14 days after item purchased
• promotional discounts can not be adjusted such as J Bucks
