FeedDIY Etch Your Own Monogrammed Glasses

I love the monogrammed glasses from Williams Sonoma!
A set of four of these glasses would run you $59 at Williams Sonoma. You know me, and that just won't cut it. Here's how I made them for around $16 total.
I bought the glasses at The Dollar Tree for $1 each. I saved on the stencils with a Michael's coupon, so those cost $8. (BTW, you can download the Michael's iPhone app so you will never leave home without your coupon.) The etching cream with Hobby Lobby coupon cost me $4.50. The paint brush cost just .20. And remember, the paint brush, etching cream and stencils can be used again and again.
First, I stuck the reusable, self-adhesive stencil to a clean glass. Be sure to get all of the edges stuck down around the monogram area. You can look through the back of the glass to see air bubbles that need to be removed.
I taped the edges of the stencil to prevent etching outside of the stencil and to make it easier to remove the stencil. Then I globbed on the etching cream with a paint brush. And I mean, globbed on!
After five or ten minutes, I rinsed the glass under lukewarm water to wash off the cream. I dried the glass but tried to let the etched area air dry without touching it. The stencil pulled off easily. I cleaned off the area around the monogram and, voila!
Before sticking the stencil to the second glass, I lined up the finished glass with the next glass to be sure the stencils were in the same spot on each.
I actually made three sets of glasses at the same time, so while a glass with the "R" on it was setting, I was sticking the "P" to the next glass and so forth. This is an easy and inexpensive Christmas gift idea!!

I have done this numerous times this summer for wedding gifts. I love it! It is so much fun and is so easy!
A few notes about it however, I would recommend rinsing the glasses outside with a hose because there is an acid in the paint that will eventually eat away at your pipes. Also, I use either Vinyl stickers that you can find at Hobby Lobby or Contact Paper. Both of these allow you to not use tape. I use a BIG stencil, because I do plates as well, and an EXACTO KNIFE to cut my own stencil out. You can reuse the stencil still but you have more of a variety of lettering types doing it this way.
