We’re All About that Produce!

The Produce Gathering

Look, I don’t think healthy eating should cost you a fortune. I have been teaching folks how to save money for nearly 10 years now and I always struggled with sharing tips for saving on healthy foods. Now, I own a produce co-op and I don’t struggle with it anymore.

First, we have a $15 fresh produce basket. It’s a no-brainer, filled with your favorite in-season produce. Second, it’s convenient. Order online and pick up the following Tuesday or Saturday. Third, we do the work for you. Your order will be ready when you arrive and you’re out the door.

We bring the Farmers Market to you! It’s that simple.

If you live in the Broken Arrow area, try out ProduceGathering.com. See you Tuesday!

How I Make Healthy Lunches for My Kids

August 22, 2016 By Sarah Roe Leave a Comment

Healthy Lunches for Kids

Most kids don’t want a healthy lunch, I get that. I have a child who wants to eat pizza when he grows up. For real, as a profession. I completely understand the lack of desire kids have for healthy foods.

That being said, I have a passion for healthy eating and I own a produce co-op in Broken Arrow so it only makes sense we have a lot of produce in our house.

There are a couple of ways to make healthy eating a little easier for our kiddos. The first is to remember who is the parent. If you buy junk food, they’ll eat junk food so don’t buy it. It’s that simple.

My kids do have snacks and yes, we do own those dreaded lunchables however, we also know how to say no and allow those foods in moderation. The same concept applies for adults, if you buy healthy, you will eat healthy if you buy junk food, you will eat junk food.

Now that we’ve settled that, the second tip is to let your children help purchase the food. Let them try out new things and discover what they like and go with it. My oldest son is just now experimenting with new fruits and veggies and that is mainly because he sees me pick them up at local farms for our produce business. He knows how they are grown (he has food allergies so he has a lot of anxiety about food) and he trusts the farms so, he will give new food a try.

Healthy Eating for Kids

The third tip is to shop, wash and prepare the food at the beginning of the week. It is important healthy food is easily accessible. The number one reason we grab junk food is because we’re all on the go and it’s easy. Therefore, it only makes sense we need to make eating healthy easy too.

Separate the food into plastic containers and store in the fridge, it will be ready and waiting for you to prepare lunches.

Healthy eating does not have to be hard, it really doesn’t. Set aside a little time and think it out a bit then, you’ll get the hang of it. Just keep in mind, we are setting the tone of our children. They will eat as adults based mostly on what we feed them as children. Let that food be good, train them up with good habits they will teach their own children one day!
